PMK Chairman Anbumani Ramadoss on Saturday urged the government to clarify the status of the ordinance banning online gambling.

In a statement, he pointed out that it had been 12 days since the expert committee, which looked into the harmful effects of online gambling, had submitted its report and that there was news that the Cabinet in chatted and gave the prescription a wink.

However, Dr Ramadoss said there had been no update since then and the state government was silent on the matter.

“If online gambling were not banned immediately, it would cause great social and economic disaster. If the ordinance is not yet prepared, the Cabinet should meet immediately and give permission and send it for the governor’s approval,” he said.

He pointed out that the number of people losing their lives to online gambling had increased and it was disappointing that the order had not yet been implemented, despite the Chief Minister’s assurance.

Dr Ramadoss pointed out that previously only suicides were reported due to online gambling, but now murders have increased. Meanwhile, he started his campaign to meet people in every village in Tiruvallur district as part of PMK’s 2.0 strategy. He raised the party flag at more than 20 places.
